Audio Transcriber FAQ

How does the free audio transcriber work?

It uses the speech recognition built into your browser (the Web Speech API). Choose a language, press Start listening and allow the microphone. Words appear while you speak, every finished phrase becomes an editable line with its time, and you can copy the transcript or download it as TXT, SRT or VTT.

What languages are supported for audio transcription?

You can choose from over 100 languages and regional variants, including English (US, UK, India, Australia and more), Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Type in the language box to find yours. Your browser's speech service decides which of them it can recognize.

Is the audio transcriber free to use?

Yes, it is free and needs no account. Your transcript stays in this browser, saved so a reload does not lose it, and is never sent to Dplooy. The recognition itself is done by your browser's speech service (Google in Chrome, Microsoft in Edge, Apple in Safari), which may process the audio on its own servers.

Can I transcribe an audio file or a YouTube video?

Not directly. Browsers only let speech recognition listen to a microphone, so this tool transcribes live speech: dictation, notes, interviews and talks in the room. It cannot open an audio or video file or capture the sound of another browser tab.

Which browsers support speech to text?

Chrome and Edge on computers, Chrome on Android, and Safari on Mac, iPhone and iPad with Siri or Dictation turned on. Firefox has no speech recognition yet. If your browser cannot listen, the page tells you, and you can still edit and download a saved transcript.

How do I turn speech into SRT subtitles?

Press Start listening and talk. Every line keeps the time it was spoken, counted from when you started, so the SRT and VTT tabs show timed captions straight away. Download the file and load it into YouTube, VLC or your video editor.
